TALA

BOWLING BAG

WMD00341.jpg
PROJECT OVERVIEW

Type: SCHOLA Project
Year: 2024
Role: Designer & Leather Artisan

The Tala Bag takes its name from "Talaga," the Indonesian word for lake. Inspired by its calm, structured outline, the bag reinterprets the classic bowling silhouette with angular curves, a wide base, and a tapered form. Clean lines and subtle geometry evoke a sense of fluidity, while minimalist details add a modern, architectural silhouette.

Tala embodies quiet elegance — timeless, but with a fresh, sculptural twist.

INITIAL SKETCH

Challenge

Maintaining structure in a wide silhouette. The bag’s wide profile is prone to collapse or slouch without internal support.

Solution

Reinforced the base with Talyn and backed the external panels with microfibre to add structure while maintaining the softness of the bag’s silhouette.

Challenge

Ensuring structural integrity where the ciappa is attached to the external panels. The stitching must be able to withstand the tension and weight of the bag.

Solution

Adding a strip of talyn and reinforcement tape behind the external panel, from top to bottom, where the ciappa is sewn, to minimize the tension from the weight of the bag.

Challenge

Aligning the interior lining with the exterior panels. The bag only has one final topstitch that binds the zipper, exterior panels, and lining together. Therefore, it was challenging to align and stitch all three elements together perfectly.

Solution

Each component, the zipper, exterior panel, and lining, was meticulously aligned and secured before stitching, allowing for a clean, seamless final construction.
